Meet Nouf
Nouf Al Sukaini has been working with LAP since it was launched in 2017. She has clients that she has been working with for these six years, and they have taught her to be patient, trusting and understanding. Interpreting with LAP has allowed her to grow in ways that she never expected. Of course, her English has developed and improved, but she has also learned a lot about herself which allows her to advocate for her clients.
Nouf’s personal story began with the long journey from Iraq to Syria, Syria to Turkey and then finally to Maine. She landed in Maine in 2014 to join her brother and his family who arrived in Portland a few years before. She loves the people of Maine and says she constantly feels supported and welcomed. After twelve years a single mother, she recently was married, and she is happy to be able to stay in Maine and raise her daughter here in Portland. She now has additional family here in Maine, including her aunts and her mother.
Nouf loves working with LAP because she loves to help the people in her community through the challenges of living in a new country and culture. She recognizes that she has a distinct advantage because she speaks English fluently and she understands how to maneuver the systems of daily life here in the States. She loves to help others by sharing her knowledge and time.
